Traits de caractère

Créatrice de mode et rêveuse engagée

What are the basic tenets of elegance ?

Contrary to the popular saying, I believe that clothes do make the man, but ultimately, human qualities override appearancejust look at Gandhi or Mother Teresa.

Where did you learn your altruism ?

My Polish nanny and my incredibly generous grandmother taught me to share, to give, and made me aware of my good fortune. Reading texts by Himalayan sages rounded out this early education.

Why create a capsule collection with Petit Bateau for the FIDH ?

This brand’s commitment to the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) was important to me. I can use my fame to highlight the courageous initiatives of the FIDH, which works throughout the world on behalf of people deprived of their civil, social, economic and cultural rights. Petit Bateau is linked to the early years so I chose blue, white and red for these few items, lively colors that evoke childhood.

What inspires you ?

I’m self-centered: I create what I need! I try to offer what others will like, rather than what they expect. Inspiration also comes as I work, as I explore materials.

What places do you find welcoming ?

The genuine small-town hotel, with a personality, like the Nord-Pinus in Arles. Also the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, the Imperial Hotel in Delhi, the Hoshinoya in Tokyo and the Es Saadi in Marrakech (featuring villas with private pools). In Paris, Le Bon Saint-Pourçain (on Rue Servandoni) and Le Petit Célestin (Quai des Célestins) a surefire place to please all generations.

A trip through time ?

No, I like my era, although I love antiques hunting. Our grandparents maintained, repaired and altered things. It brings to mind the Japanese art of boro, a patchwork of mostly blue cotton, to create a new item of clothing from older ones.
